How do I fix the Safari glitch on my iPhone?

Safari is an all-around great browser, especially if you are a long-term iOS/macOS user. The mere fact that a mobile browser comes with a myriad of useful extensions speaks volumes about how irreplaceable Safari is in Apple’s ecosystem. However, don’t let your guard down because issues do occur from time to time. One such problem is “A Problem Repeatedly Occurred” on Safari for iPhone. This error appears when users try to access certain websites, upon multiple failed tries to load the page. Learn how to fix this below.

Table of contents:

How do I fix the Safari glitch on my iPhone?

You can usually fix Safari glitches and errors with a simple restart. If that fails, consider disabling some extensions that might cause issues with website content. Alternatively, you can clear the website data for particular websites or wipe Safari clean and try again.

1. Restart your iPhone

First, restart your iPhone and check if the issue reoccurs. A simple restart usually solves the majority of minor issues on iOS. Including issues with the default browser, in case Safari won’t connect to the internet or something similar. The second suggestion would be to try and open the website in Incognito mode.

Based on reports, this happens only on particular websites and only on Safari. All affected websites seemingly work on Chrome and other browsers. If the issue persists, make sure to check extensions and disable the ones that have something to do with content blocking, DNS or VPN, and even HTML Viewers as one Reddit user claims.

2. Disable extensions and VPN

Whenever something like the “A Problem Repeatedly Occurred” error occurs in Safari, the first suspect is extensions. Many extensions are there to block ads or trackers, but also different content-related extensions (and VPN clients) might cause issues. Especially if you open pages from links instead of search engine results. Some users report that Safari couldn’t play videos on iPhone before they disabled extensions.

You can check all installed extensions in Settings and, by the system of elimination, find out what extension is causing the problem. Here’s how to manage Safari Extensions on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Open Extensions.
  4. Disable extensions one by one and check for improvements.Problem Repeatedly Occurred Safari

Also, if you have a system-wide content blocker through custom DNS or a VPN client, try disabling it and give Safari another try.

3. Remove All Website Data

If you still get the same error, you can remove All Website Data in Safari Settings. This will remove all cached data and cookies and you can do it for individual websites or remove all Website Data stored by Safari on your iPhone. Once you wipe the browsing data, restart your iPhone and give the problematic website another shot.

Here’s how to Remove Website Data for certain or all websites you ever visited on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Open Advanced from the bottom.
  4. Tap Website Data.
  5. Tap Edit and remove individual websites or tap Remove All Website Data to wipe browsing history completely.Problem Repeatedly Occurred Safari

4. Use alternative browsers

Finally, if there’s no way to open a certain website in Safari (which is hard to believe but not impossible), you can try with any of the available third-party browsers. Starting with Chrome or Opera (or even Brave), you have more than enough alternatives. At least, for those tasks that apparently can’t be done with Safari. You can find all of them in App Store.
