Fix: Notifications Not Working after iOS 10/10.1/10.2 update

Published

We recently listed some of the common issues that emerged with iOS 10.2, but there are plenty new issues reported every day. One of the problems that established itself as a great annoyance is the malfunction of the notifications feature.

Supposedly, the notifications signals won’t work on standard services or the third-party apps, either. So, if you are expecting sound or vibration when the message appears, you won’t get any of that. In addition to the already grave problem, the screen isn’t lighting up as well.

This renders the device unusable in the opinion of many users. We prepared some possible solutions so you can try and fix the problem. At least until the Apple addresses the issue and makes their devices usable for all the costumers who upgraded their OS.

Disable Do Not Disturb option

Do Not Disturb option prevents your device from alerts while the screen is locked. To disable it, follow the instructions:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Do Not Disturb.
  3. Disable Manual.

Or you can do it in the Control Center by tapping the blue moon icon.

Reset Network Settings

You can try to reset your network settings and possibly fix the problem with connection-dependable apps. To do so follow this steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Select Reset Network Settings.
  5. Confirm selection

Toggle Alow Notifications and change notification sounds

This is a bit too obvious but the solution sometimes lies in the simple ways. Even though you haven’t changed settings, an update may have them mixed up, so better check it out. To do so, follow this steps:

  1. Go to Settings:
  2. Select Notifications.
  3. Enable Allow Notifications and Show On Lock Screen.
  4. Change the default sound to any other.

Sign Out and Sign In on all third-party apps

You can also try to sign out and sign back in all third-party applications. For example Facebook, WhatsApp or Gmail.

Restart the device

Restarting the device can be a handful in many occasions so you should try it out.

  1. Press and hold Sleep/Wake button for 10 seconds until you see red slider.
  2. Drag the slider to turn the device off.
  3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until Apple logo appears.

Conclusion

Instead of pursuing aesthetics, software developers dedicated to system updates should work out the issues that are of much greater importance for users. Like, notifications or alarms. We hope you’ll find a solution for your problems in some of the tips we listed here. Maybe you have some other solution in your mind that can resolve this issue?
