Fix: Netflix app is not compatible

Published

Netflix went as far as to introduce certain plans only for smartphones, considering that many of us consume our media via smart devices we carry in our pockets. And, when it works, with Smart downloads and all other features, Netflix for Android and iOS is a rather well-made streaming service. However, some users have had a hard time with the installation of the app. When they get into the Play Store and look for Netflix, they see that the Netflix app is not compatible with their device. We have a few explanations for this occurrence and how to fix it.

Table of contents:

  1. Check the Netflix version
  2. Install the APK
  3. Update your OS

Why is the Netflix app not compatible with my device?

1. Check the Netflix version

The most important thing to realize is that Netflix comes in a variety of apps for all kinds of different platforms. Basically, any platform that allows for app installation has its version of Netflix. So, if you see in the Store the Netflix app is not compatible with your device, chances are that you are looking at the Android TV version. Also, make sure that your Android device is on Android 5.0 or later.

Also, Netflix is not available in some regions, so keep that in mind, as well. And, finally, if the SafetyNet is failing on rooted devices or certain ROMs, you won’t be able to install Netflix on your Android.

Those are important things to know and you should ensure that none of them are actually causing the issue. If you are on a stock ROM, not rooted, in a supported region, and looking at the Android Netflix app on your Android 5+ device, but still get the compatibility error, try the next step.

2. Install the APK

The next thing you can try is installing Netflix for Android from an external source. The procedure is also known as APK sideloading and it gives you an extra option if the Play Store is not enough. We recommend getting the Netflix APK from APK Mirror where the app’s code is not tinkered with.

Sideloading APKs with unlocked subscription-free Netflix or some streaming alternatives is a risky business and we don’t recommend doing so unless you want to get yourself in some trouble. Or you exactly know all the risks but willingly choose to take them. So, getting the standard Netflix app via an APK is the way to go.

You can learn how to install APKs in detail in detail or just follow the steps below:

  1. Open the web browser and navigate to APK Mirror.
  2. Download either the latest version of Netflix for Android or any recent one.
  3. Run the APK you downloaded and, when prompted, allow installation from unknown sources.
  4. Install the app and sign in with your credentials.

3. Update your OS

Finally, we can’t wrap up this article without mentioning that the last supported Android version is Android 5.0. So, if there’s a chance to update your firmware or get a bit newer device, make sure to do it. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use Netflix on Android.

You can also contact Netflix support, here. Report the problem and they might be able to help you out.

And, on that note, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading and feel free to share your thoughts, questions, or suggestions in the comments section below. We look forward to hearing from you.
