How long should my iPhone be verifying the update?
The verification process after downloading a software update on iOS shouldn’t last more than a minute or so. However, there are records of it lasting up to 10 minutes, which are still quite rare. With that in mind, we can conclude that there’s something wrong with the update procedure if you are stuck at the Verifying Update screen for a long time. If that’s the case, we suggest checking storage space and the network.
But, before doing anything, restart your iPhone and check for updates in Settings > General > Software Update again. If that didn’t help, navigate to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Once there, you can identify what’s taking a lot of space so you can delete some files.
Updates usually take up to 5GB but they can get even larger. If you’re sure that you have enough storage space to download and install the update, check the network.
Even with all files downloaded, your iPhone needs an internet connection for the whole download process. Only once the device reboots to install the update, the network is of no importance. So, make sure that your iPhone has a connection to a stable Wi-Fi network throughout the whole download procedure. To install the update, ensure that your battery level is above 50%.
On the other hand, if you checked the storage and the network but your iPhone is still stuck on Verifying Update, you can reset and restore your device. You can either go through iPhone settings or use iTunes on your PC or Mac. Just make sure to back up everything before going through with the factory reset. To reset your iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
