Instagram on iOS usually works without issues but we run into a lot of reports about Instagram crashing and closing on the iPhone. If Instagram keeps closing on your iPhone for no apparent reason, we have a few solutions to suggest. Hopefully, by the end of the article, you’ll fix the problem at hand.

Why does my Instagram keep crashing?
Instagram might keep crashing on your iPhone for internal or external reasons. You can check if the service is down for other users, too, before moving to updating iOS, reinstalling the app, or resetting all settings. Learn everything you need to know below.
1. Restart your iPhone
The first thing you should do is restart your iPhone. That should address the issue with Instagram, although it all depends on whether the problem is internal or if we are looking at a temporary service outage. You can find out if Instagram is down on the dedicated page of the Down Detector.
Keep in mind that most outages get fixed after a few hours so you might need to wait before Instagram starts working again. If Instagram isn’t down and the quick restart doesn’t fix the problem, move to the next step.
2. Update iOS
Some users report that issues with third-party apps on iOS stopped after updating the firmware. Others suggest that the issues were only present on the Beta version of iOS and leaving the iOS Beta program fixed the problem with third-party apps crashing on iOS 16.
Here’s how to check for updates on iOS 16:
On the other hand, to leave the Beta program, navigate to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management and delete the Beta Profile. This will allow you to install the next stable update (a later version than the current Beta version) when it becomes available.
3. Reinstall Instagram
You can also reinstall Instagram and check for improvements. This is the best way to address issues with all third-party apps and first-party apps that can be deleted and later installed again from App Store.
Here’s how to reinstall Instagram on your iPhone:
- Tap and hold on to the Instagram app shortcut on the Home Screen or in the App Library.
- Tap Remove App in the contextual menu.
- Then tap Delete App.
- Open App Store and install Instagram again.
4. Reset All Settings
Finally, if none of the previous steps worked, we recommend resetting all settings. Of course, you can reset your iPhone to factory settings and restore it, but we don’t think this is worth the effort.
Here’s how to Reset All Settings on your iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Choose Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings and confirm with your PIN/Password/pattern.
That should do it. If Instagram still keeps closing on your iPhone, make sure to report the problem to Instagram Support and iOS. Thank you for reading and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
