Phones are much more than pocket computers these days. We keep all sorts of personal data inside, and most of us prefer that data to stay private. Good that iOS 16 brought an extra layer of security, allowing you to hide and lock photos and videos in the Photos app. We explain how to hide photos and videos on your iPhone and how Hidden Album is now actually useful.
How do I hide pictures and videos in a folder on my iPhone?
On iOS 15, hiding a few photos or videos wasn’t perfect. Yes, you can place media files in the Hidden folder (Hidden Album) and disable it in Settings > Photos, but someone might re-enable it and look at your not-so-well-kept secrets in the Photos app. Luckily, on iOS 16, you can use Face ID to lock this folder and prevent anyone from accessing it. The best thing is that Face ID also prevents access to Deleted folder, where all recently deleted photos and videos reside. So no one except you can access deleted files.
So, with that in mind, here’s how to hide photos and videos on your iPhone in Hidden Folder:
- First, open Settings.
- Open Photos.
- Enable Use Face ID and Show Hidden Album.
- Now, open the Photos app.
- Select Library from the bottom.
- Tap Select at the top.
- Choose photos and videos you want to hide.
- After highlighting all the files, you want to move to Hidden Folder and tap on the 3-dots menu at the bottom right corner.
- Select Hide from the contextual menu.
Now, after you open the Photos app and select Albums, you’ll see Hidden. Tap on it, and use your Face ID to unlock it. You’ll find all the hidden photos and videos there. If you like to, you can now navigate to Settings > Photos and disable Show Hidden Album. Hiding the album won’t delete anything you’ve placed there, but it’s an extra step to keep any curious soul away from the Hidden Album (Hidden Folder). You can still hide new photos and videos, but you’ll need to re-enable the Show Hidden Album to see them.
And with that said, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading, and don’t forget to share your questions or suggest alternative ways to hide photos on your iPhone.
