Unless you specifically set a timer, or alarm, or got a notification — Google Nest Hub should be quiet. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case for some users who report that their Google Nest Hub is making a clicking sound for no apparent reason. Today, we will shed some light on this occurrence and show you how to fix it.

What are Google Nest Hub pop sounds?
Based on reports, the Google Nest Hub tends to make clicking or pop sounds because of Night mode or Ultrasound sensing. Try disabling both options and check if the annoying sounds are still there. If that does nothing, consider resetting the Google Nest Hub to factory settings. Learn all the details below.
1. Disable Night mode
If you run into weird sounds from your Google Nest Hub, particularly in the morning, the main reason can be found in Night mode. When enabled, Night mode will reduce the volume of Nest Hub responses during a specific time. You can schedule this option as an alarm or Do Not Disturb mode.
There was a bug that’s seemingly still present for some users that causes the Google Nest Hub to signal the end of the Night mode schedule with clicking or pop sounds.
The best way to solve this is to disable the Night mode in the Google Home app:
- Open Google Home.
- Select your Google Nest Hub.
- Tap on the gear (cog) icon to bring out Device settings.
- Select Notifications & digital wellbeing.
- Select Night mode.
- Toggle Off the Enable night mode option.
2. Disable Ultrasound sensing
The next option that some people list as a possible cause for Google Nest Hub pop or clicking sounds is Ultrasound sensing. This feature allows Google Nest Hub to optimize certain features based on your proximity to the device (also used for Presence sensing).
For example, you’ll get some previews if your smart display identifies that you are in proximity. It’s a great feature but, for some reason, it does cause clicking sounds for some users. Which is, all things considered, a good enough reason to disable it.
Here’s how to disable Ultrasound sensing in Google Home:
- Open Google Home.
- Choose your Google Nest Hub from the list of devices.
- Tap on the gear icon to open Settings.
- Select Recognition & sharing.
- Disable Ultrasound sensing.
3. Reset the Google Nest Hub to factory settings
Finally, if none of the previous steps worked, you can try fixing the issue by resetting your Google Nest Hub t0 factory settings. You won’t lose any data and most settings will remain unaffected but you might need to configure certain services.
Here’s how to reset the Google Nest Hub (1st or 2nd Gen) to factory settings:
- Press and hold both Volume buttons for 10 seconds. This should reset your device to factory settings and you can set it up anew.
- Open Google Home.
- Tap Add or + icon and select Set up a device.
- Tap New device. Enable Location Services and Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Select Google Nest Hub, choose preferred services and configure settings.
