Fix: Google Home Personal Results not working (2022)

Where are Personal results in the Google Home app?

Google Home Personal results (or Google Assistant Personal results in general) can be super-useful and make the whole user experience personalized without risking someone else accessing your own private data. However, some users report that Google Home Personal Results are not working for some reason on Google Home/Nest Speakers and Hubs. If you’re also affected, check the instructions we provided below.

Table of contents:

  1. Reboot your smart device
  2. Disable and re-enable Personal results on Google Home speaker or display
  3. Retrain your voice
  4. Check Google Account Activity settings
  5. Reset your smart speaker or display to factory settings

Where are Personal results in the Google Home app?

Personal Results in the Google Home app are account-related updates tailored for individual users of smartphones or smart home devices (Google Home or Google Nest speakers and displays). You can get results from services like Google Photos, Reminders (Tasks), YouTube Music playlists, Gmail emails, or a plethora of different features based on your preferences and usage patterns/history. Not every option is available on all devices and Personal results are not linked to third-party services like Spotify or Netflix. So, just Google’s services linked to your Google Account.

You can find Personal results in your Google Home app if you expand the smart speaker or hub, then open Settings > Recognition & sharing > Personal results. If Personal results don’t appear during usage, you can try resetting your smart home device (speaker or display), resetting the setting, retraining your voice, or resetting the device to factory settings.

1. Reboot your smart device

A quick reboot is the first thing you should do if your Personal results don’t appear even though you have enabled the option. Based on some Reddit posts, it fixed the problem for some users. This is nothing uncommon, considering that dealing with multiple voice matches in the household is still somewhat sketchy for Google smart devices except Hub Max which offers face recognition.

Give it a go and, if Google Home Personal results are still not working, check the next step.

2. Disable and re-enable Personal results on Google Home speaker or display

The next thing you can try is disabling and re-enabling Personal results for your Google Home (Google Nest) speaker or display. A temporary problem might be causing a glitch and this is, usually, a good way to fix it. Don’t forget to enable Personal results on other devices you use Google Assistant on. For some reason, this seems to address the issue, too.

Here’s how to disable and re-enable Personal results for Google Home speaker or display:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your Android or iPhone.
  2. Select the speaker or display from the list of available devices.
  3. Tap on the cog icon to open Settings.
  4. Choose Recognition & sharing.
  5. Tap Personal results near the bottom.
  6. Disable Personal Results and restart your speaker or display (plug it out and then plug it in again).
  7. Once it starts anew, you should repeat the steps in Google Home and enable Personal Results again.google home personal results not working

3. Retrain your voice

If the previous step failed, you can try retraining your voice. In order for the Google Home speaker to show your personal results, it needs to recognize your voice. This is a privacy measure meant to prevent other people from accessing your data, like notifications or private Google Photos albums. Even though your voice hasn’t changed over time, Google Home smart devices can still stop identifying it properly. Have in mind that changing voice match applies to all devices under the same Google Account. You can’t add a separate voice for different devices.

Here’s how to retrain your voice model for the Google Home device:

  1. Once again, open Google Home and navigate to Speaker/Display > Settings > Recognition & sharing.
  2. Choose Voice Match from the bottom.
  3. Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again.
  4. Tap Retrain.google home personal results not working
  5. Follow the instructions and record your voice. Make sure to do that in a quiet room.
  6. Try asking for some Personal results, like your Google Photos library or personalized playlists in YouTube Music.

Alternatively, you can remove a household member that doesn’t get Personal Results and add them again. To manage your Household, select the Home you want to edit, and tap on Settings. Select Household, tap on the member you want to remove and then tap Remove from the top right corner. Later on, you can add the same member from the same menu. Just send them an invite they need to accept.

4. Check Google Account Activity settings

Google Home might have a hard time accessing your Personal Results if the Web & App Activity is disabled. Therefore, if you or any other household members can’t get Personal results, make sure to navigate to your Google Account Console on the web or through Assistant settings on your phone. Once there, enable Web & App Activity.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your phone, open Google Home.
  2. Tap on your Account at the top right corner and open Assistant settings.
  3. Tap Manage your Google Account.
  4. Choose the Data & Privacy tab.
  5. Select Web & App Activity under History Settings.
  6. Confirm that this option is enabled.

5. Reset your smart speaker or display to factory settings

Ultimately, if none of the previous steps worked, you can try the factory reset. The procedure obviously varies on different Google-made smart devices, but you can find the complete list of instructions on the official support page provided by Google. Have in mind that this won’t delete anything nor remove your usage history because most settings and features are cloud-based and tightly connected to your Google Account.

To set up your smart device again, open Google Home > plus icon at the top left corner > Set up device > New device. Enable Bluetooth and Location Services on your phone and follow the instructions. We can only hope that Google Home personal results will start appearing after this. If the issue persists, tap on your Account in the Google Home app and report the problem under the Help & feedback menu.

In the end, we thank you for your time and hope that the instructions we provided here helped you fix the problem. Do you have any alternative solutions to recommend? Is Google’s smart lineup unexpectedly performing worse over the years? Tell us in the comments below.
