Why can’t I access some websites on my phone?

Here are some steps you can follow to fix Google Chrome in case some websites are not opening on your Android:

  • Check the network. Make sure that you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network or use mobile data.
  • Clear cache and cookies or clear complete browsing data from Google Chrome.
  • Uninstall Chrome updates.
  • Disable Lite mode.
  • Make sure you are not low on storage space.

There can be various reasons why some websites are not opening on Google Chrome on your Android. It might be that your Chrome is outdated, or that you don’t have enough space to load a page. Sometimes there can be a problem with cached pages. One of the common reasons can be related to your internet connection. Whatever the reason is, troubleshooting it won’t be that difficult.

1. Check your internet connection

Before proceeding further, you need to make sure that everything is alright with your internet connection. Whether you are using a WiFi connection or cellular data, you need to make sure that there is nothing interfering with your connection. A poor and unstable connection can cause a page not to load properly, especially if a page is having too much content or complex code.

To fix that, make sure you are using an active data plan. Check your WiFi connection strength, it may not work on Android. Try to restart the connection on your phone as well as your router. Try switching between WiFi and cellular data.

To rule out the connection problems, you can also try accessing the page on other browsers such as Firefox or UC Browser. If the page is not loading on other browsers, then it is definitely a problem with your connection. If the page works fine on another browser, then your connection is fine and you can proceed with the next steps.

2. Clear cache and cookies

To boost your loading speed as well as to save your mobile data, Google Chrome is caching some of your pages. While this can be a useful feature, sometimes it can cause page loading problems, especially if a page’s content is updated.

To clear cache and cookies on Google Chrome:

  1. Launch the Google Chrome app;
  2. Tap the three-dot menu on the top right corner;
  3. Go to Settings > Privacy > Clear browsing data;google chrome not loading pages
  4. Check all options and tap Clear data;
  5. Try loading a page again.

3. Reboot your device

While this looks like something you can do as a first step of troubleshooting, we put it in third place as the previous two steps fix the issue in 90% of cases. Restarting your phone will correct some performance issues which can be responsible for your page loading difficulties as well as connection problems.

4. Update Android System Webview

To better enchant the user experience, Google developed a function called Android System Webview. It is a core part of the Android Operating System that makes the pages on your smartphone appear the same as on your computer.

As this function supports both apps developed by Google as well as third-party apps, it will be good to always keep it up to date. If this system function starts to glitch, Google Chrome can lose the ability to load pages properly. Updating it can fix the issue.

To update Android System Webview:

  1. Go to Google Play Store;
  2. Search for Android System Webview;google chrome not loading pages
  3. Tap Update;
  4. Launch Google Chrome and try to load a page again.

5. Update Google Chrome

In pair with a previous step, it is recommended by Google to update Google Chrome after you updated Android System WebView. Regardless of this, Updating Chrome might solve your problem of a page not loading in Chrome.

To update Google Chrome:

  1. Go to Google Play Store;
  2. Search for Google Chrome;some websites not opening in chrome android
  3. Tap Update;
  4. Launch Google Chrome and try to load a page again.

6. Uninstall and reinstall Chrome updates

If your Google Chrome appears to be up to date, another thing you can try is to uninstall and then reinstall updates again. Doing this will reset the browser settings, get rid of settings and fix compatibility issues and remove corrupted temporary files. Doing this will not make you lose any personal data.

To uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome updates:

  1. Go to Settings;
  2. Go to Apps and notifications or Apps > Manage apps depending on your phone;
  3. Choose Google Chrome; google chrome not loading pages
  4. Choose Uninstall updates (it might be located in the three-dots menu depending on your phone) and tap OK.
  5. Go to Google Play Store;
  6. Search for Google Chrome;
  7. Tap Update;
  8. Launch Google Chrome and try to load a page again

7. Reset network settings

Whenever you connect your device to a new WiFi network, the settings will be saved along with it. One day there will be too much Wi-Fi data stored on your phone. This will eventually make Chrome unable to load pages.

To reset network settings on Android:

  1. Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings;some websites not opening in chrome android
  2. If you are using a Xiaomi device, go to Settings > Connection & sharing > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and Bluetooth > Reset settings.

8. Force stop Google Chrome and start it again

Sometimes it can happen that a temporary glitch prevents Chrome from working as intended. Web pages might not load because of it. The best fix for that is to force-stop Google Chrome. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Google Chrome > Force stop. After that, just run Chrome again.

9. Free up storage space

Every single website you visit requires free storage space on your device, as its data will be temporarily stored. If you don’t have enough storage, make sure to clear some unnecessary files or unused apps.

Another thing you can try is to clear Google Chrome’s data. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Google Chrome > Clear data > Manage Space. From there you’ll have options to Free up space and Clear all data. The first option will get rid of data of sites you don’t visit too often and sites that don’t save any settings. Clear all data looks similar to clearing cache and cookies, but it can also clear user data, such as saved accounts, bookmarks, and settings.some websites not opening in chrome android

10. Close all Google Chrome tabs

The previous step is oriented toward the storage space on your device. Similarly to that, you also need to make sure you have enough working space, or if you prefer, available RAM. Having too many open tabs can probably cause Chrome to crash, but it can also make a page fail to load. In Google Chrome, make sure to close all recent pages by swiping or clicking on the close icon.

That should address the issue with some websites not opening in Chrome on Android.

11. Enable data usage for Google Chrome

A recent network problem or app reinstall can disable data usage for that particular app. To simply solve this, just enable data usage for the app by going to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Google Chrome > Restrict data usage and thick Mobile data. On some devices, you can manage those settings under Dual Sim & Mobile Data.some websites not opening in chrome android

12. Turn off Lite mode

A feature that was previously known as Data saver, and later renamed to Lite mode, can help you load pages faster, loading only essential content. While this can be useful, it can also make some websites not load at all.

To turn off this feature:

  1. Open Google Chrome;
  2. Tap on the three-dot menu;
  3. Go to Settings;some websites not opening in chrome android
  4. Scroll down and open Lite mode;
  5. Toggle it Off.

13. Check if the website you’re trying to reach is down

If you’re trying various steps to solve the issue and still have no luck accessing the website, you should check if the website you’re accessing is down for everyone or just you. Sometimes, site owners can have problems with their hosting servers, or they can shut down the website for maintenance.

To check if the website is down:

  1. Copy the link of the website you are trying to access;
  2. Visit DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com;some websites not opening in chrome android
  3. Paste the link in the input box and click on Or just me
  4. It will show you if the website is down or up

Alternatively, you can also use IsItDownRightNow.com

14. Access the website using a VPN

Some websites might not be opening in Chrome on Android because they are blocked by your network operators or State, giving you a loading error. You can try to access that page using a VPN connection:

  1. Download any VPN from Google Play Store;
  2. Open the VPN app and connect it to another country;
  3. After you’re connected, you can try to revisit the website again.

Our VPN suggestion for you is Surfshark. It is a relatively new service that is growing its popularity every day.

15. Other things you can try

We hope that one of the steps listed above already helped you resolve the issue. In case you still face problems, make sure that the URL you are visiting is correctly typed, with no spaces or typos.

You can also try viewing the website in Desktop mode as it might not be suitable for mobile. To do this, click on the three-dots menu at the top right corner, and check the Desktop site option.some websites not opening in chrome android
