Google Calendar not syncing with iPhone

Using Google’s services on iOS isn’t always as natural as one would like. Sometimes due to a bit of low effort on Google’s side, and sometimes due to the fact that Apple prefers their native apps. But things are getting better. Many users rely on Google Calendar on their iPhones or sync its events to Apple Calendar. However, some of them have had a hard time as Google Calendar is not syncing with the iPhone. If you are using Google Calendar or syncing it to Apple Calendar and the problem arises, check the steps we listed below to fix it.

Table of contents:

  1. Remove and add Google Account to iCloud
  2. Check the network
  3. Reinstall the Google Calendar app
  4. Check Apple Calendar settings

Why is my Google Calendar not syncing with my phone?

1. Remove and add Google Account to iCloud

The first thing you should try is removing and re-adding your Google Account (Gmail) on iCloud. As you might know, to utilize Google Services on Android, you need to sign in with a Google Account. The same goes for iOS. You need to sign in with your Google Account in order to utilize Google Calendar or sync it to Apple Calendar.

Now, if you are already signed in, you can try and remove your Google Account and add it again. That should restart the sync and all your events from various calendars should appear on your iPhone, as well.

Here’s how to remove and re-add Google Account from Google Calendar on iPhone:

  1. Open Google Calendar on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu and select Settings.
  3. Tap Manage accounts.
  4. Toggle Off your Google Account and, when the prompt appears, select Sign out.
  5. Restart your iPhone and sign in again.manage google account google calendar ios

And this is how to remove your Google Account completely from your iPhone:

  1. Tap Settings. On older iterations of iOS, just open Settings > Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Open Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Select Gmail.
  5. Tap Delete Account.
  6. Restart your iPhone and navigate through Settings > Mail > Accounts again.
  7. Tap Add Account.
  8. Add your Google Account and sign in again with your credentials.

2. Check the network

If you more frequently use mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, make sure that Google Calendar has permission to use it in the background. Also, make sure that your internet connection, both through Wi-Fi or cellular data is working as it’s supposed to.

Test it out in apps that are internet-dependent like social networks. If everything works but Google Calendar is still not syncing to iPhone, make sure to continue troubleshooting. On the other hand, if you experience some connectivity problems, we got you covered. Check out the article focused on addressing Wi-Fi issues on your iPhone.

3. Reinstall the Google Calendar app

Some users managed to make Google Calendar work by simply reinstalling the app. There might be a temporary problem with the app and a fresh start is always a recommended solution when things like that happen.

Here’s how to reinstall Google Calendar on your iPhone:

  1. Locate Google Calendar on the Home Screen or App Drawer.
  2. Tap and hold on to the icon until the contextual menu appears.
  3. Tap Remove App.
  4. In the next window, tap Delete App.
  5. Now, navigate to App Store and download Google Calendar again.reinstall google calendar ios 1024x607 1

If Google Calendar is still not syncing with iPhone, consider sending a ticket to Google.

4. Check Apple Calendar settings

Now, there are some instances where users rely on Apple Calendar solely but want the Google Calendar events to sync with this native app. The syncing procedure usually goes without issues and automatically, as soon as you add your Google Account. However, there are some options you’ll need to inspect if there are some issues with syncing.

Here’s what you need to do in order for Google Calendar events to appear and sync on Apple Calendar:

  • Navigate to Settings > Calendar > Accounts and make sure that there’s a Gmail Account (Google Account) you want to sync with Apple Calendar.
  • In the same menu, open Fetch New Data and make sure that Fetch is set to Automatically and Gmail is set to Fetch instead of Manual.
  • Open Apple Calendar and tap Calendars. Make sure that the checkbox next to your Google Account is checked.

That should do it. Thank you for reading and feel free to share your thoughts, and questions, or possibly suggest solutions in the comments section below. We always look forward to hearing from you.
