Fix: Uber App not Working on iPhone

Uber and other online car on-demand services are ever ever-growing niche. And Uber is, at the moment at least, the leading taxi service in multiple countries around the world. It’s fast and reliable, just like the app which makes it a functional service in the first place. Too bad it invades your privacy, though.

However, iOS users have experienced issues with the Uber app, including the frequent freezing that, later on, leads to crashes and renders the complete service unusable. Moreover, it affects both parties: customers and drivers themselves. As you would expect, this is a grave problem for this service. So, today, we’ll try and address it with a few viable workarounds.

So, if you’ve experienced crashes with the Uber app in iOS, make sure to check the solutions below.

How to Fix Uber App Not Working on iPhone

(1) Restart your device and app

The first obvious viable solution is to restart the device. Namely, your OS can, for various reasons, cause the app to freeze or crash. Just like so many other apps, the Uber app, can either suffer from accumulated cache or other system-related problems. For that purpose, make sure to restart your handset and give Uber another try later on.

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
  2. After it appears, use the slider to turn your device Off.
  3. After the device turns off, use the Sleep/Wake button to turn it ON again.

(2) Force quit the app and try again

If the Uber app is the instigator of the issue at hand rather than all-around system performance, you can force quit the app and start it again. This should resolve in-app stalls and resolve freezing that leads to crashes. As same as the above-mentioned solution, this is easy to do and an elementary step in the troubleshooting procedure.

  1. Double-tap the home button.
  2. Swipe up on the Uber app card.
  3. Reopen the app.

That should relieve you of the problem and you should resolve the issue. However, if the problem is of more deeper nature, you might need to check the alternative solutions below.

(3) Check the connection

Another known reason for crashes/freezing of the Uber app on iOS is related to the connection. As you’re well aware, this app can’t function without the proper connection. So make sure to check the connection before we move to other steps. There’s a chance that you’ll need to rely on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, so it’s of utmost importance to check both mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity in order to retain a stable connection. Only that way you can be sure that everything functions as intended.

  • Disable and then re-enable Wi-Fi.
  • Check cables and restart the Wi-Fi router.
  • Check coverage area.
  • Restart your device.
  • Remove and re-insert the SIM card.
  • Reset Network settings.
    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Tap Reset.
    4. Choose ‘Reset Network Settings’.
    5. Enter your passcode when prompted.
    6.  Tap on Reset to confirm.
    7. Restart your device.
  • Update your device.
  • In Cellular Data > Use Cellular Data For, check that the Uber app is enabled.
  • Switch between 3G and 4G to find which works better.

(4) Update iOS

Many users experienced issues with the Uber app after upgrading to iOS 10. Luckily, additional updates changed things for the better. So, for that purpose, it’s highly advised to check for available updates and, hopefully, we’ll get in the clear.  However, things tend to get complicated for some users. Certain apps might not be timely updated in regard to active iOS versions, so for some users, it’s better not to update iOS until the corresponding app update emerges.

To update your iOS to the latest version, follow the instructions below:

  1. Check if the latest Uber app version supports the latest iOS.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Choose Software Update.
  5. Install the update.

(5) Update/reinstall the app

When it comes to standard app troubleshooting of iOS apps, there’s only so much you can do. Most of the time, they function well and are well-optimized in comparison to certain Android apps. Of course, if your iPhone isn’t jailbroken. What you can do, and that’s quite often just enough, is to update or reinstall the troubled app and hope for the best.

To update the Uber app, follow the instructions below:

  1. Tap App Store.
  2. Open Updates.
  3. If there are updates available for Uber, tap to update it.

To reinstall the Uber app, check the steps below:

  1. On the app screen, tap and hold the Uber app until the X appears.
  2. Tap X to uninstall the app.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Open the App Store and search for Uber.
  5. Tap and install the app.

That should do it. After that, your problems should be gone and you can continue to use your favorite taxi service both as a partner driver or customer.
