Fix: Facetime not Connecting on iPhone

FaceTime featured 2 768x432 1

These days, FaceTime is used more than ever and it’s quite a debilitating problem for many if they can’t use it to stay in touch with friends and family. Now, there are a few major issues we wrote about but it seems that network connectivity is another one that bothers more than a few iPhone users. Namely, FaceTime won’t connect for many of them when they try to make a call. Luckily, there are a few solutions you should check before giving up.

Table of contents:

  1. Check the network connection
  2. Disable and re-enable FaceTime
  3. Update iOS
  4. Reset your device to factory settings

How do I fix my FaceTime if it is not Connecting?

1. Check the network connection

The first thing to do is to check the network connection. Make sure that you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. If you use a mobile data connection, make sure that Cellular is enabled in Settings > FaceTime. Also, you can check for major outages by navigating to Apple System Status, here. You’ll find FaceTime at the bottom of the first row.

If you are experiencing connectivity issues and don’t know where to start with troubleshooting, check our dedicated article on the matter.

2. Disable and re-enable FaceTime

The next step to take is to restart FaceTime by disabling it and re-enabling it again in System Settings. This usually helps with FaceTime issues, especially major ones, which this definitely is.

In order to disable and re-enable FaceTime on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap FaceTime.
  3. Disable FaceTime.
  4. Now, restart your device and get back to Settings > FaceTime.
  5. Enable it and check for improvements.

If FaceTime won’t connect despite these steps, move to the next solution.

3. Update iOS

System apps and issues that plague them are usually fixed with system updates. That’s why we always suggest keeping your device up to date. Updating iOS can take some time and there are no frequent feature updates but fixes are definitely a big reason why one would want to run the latest version of iOS.

Updates are, by default, automatic. However, you can check for updates manually by following these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Now, tap Software Update.
  4. Install available updates and give FaceTime another try.check for updates ios 3

4. Reset all settings

Finally, if none of the previous steps worked, we can only suggest resetting all settings on your device. This action won’t delete your data, only restore settings to their factory values. Of course, you can also go for the Factory Reset (you can use iTunes client for that, too), but it’s questionable whether that will do anything.

Here’s how to reset your iPhone to factory settings in a few simple steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset All Settings and enter your PIN/password when prompted.
  5. Confirm so your device can reset all system settings.reset all settings ios

And with that, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading and feel free to leave your questions or suggestions in the comments section below. We look forward to hearing from you.
