How to create a folder on Chromebook? Learn here

Can you have folders on Chromebook?

Chromebooks and ChromeOS are primarily focused on internet-based functionality which distinguishes them from Windows PCs. However, there are still many Windows-like features that every Chromebook can do. One of those is creating and managing folders in the internal storage. Learn how to create a folder on your Chromebook below.

Can you have folders on Chromebook?

Yes, you can. Despite ChromeOS being a cloud-oriented system, you still can save files locally and store them in the Downloads folder. The thing with Chromebooks is that, by default, they come with fairly limited storage options. That’s just the nature of this platform.

So, unless you own a high-specs Chromebook, you’ll probably have no more than 64GB of space to store multimedia or other files. It’s a way to keep the price low and it’s expected considering that, as we said, Chromebooks use Google Drive as the preferred storage option.

If you want to create a folder on your Chromebook, you’ll need to open Files. You can do that from the App Launcher. Once there, select Downloads. The Downloads folder translates to the internal storage folder, where all files you download or add from external sources are saved. After that, all you need to do is to right-click (or Alt+ left click) and select the New folder option from the contextual menu, or just press Ctrl + E.create a folder on chromebook

Once you create a folder, name it and you’re good to go. To place files in the folder, just drag and drop or cut/copy-paste them. If you want to delete a folder permanently, select Delete from the contextual menu. Alternatively, if you have it enabled, you can place folders and files in the Trash Bin. There are a few more flags you should consider enabling, especially the option to move the Taskbar.

You can also pin the folder to the shelf for quick access. To do this, just right-click on the folder and select Pin to shelf.

And, on that note, we can conclude this article. To summarize, you can create folders in the Downloads folder on your Chromebook. Just press Ctrl+E to add a new folder while in Files > Downloads.
