How to change WiFi network in Smart Life (2022)

How do I change the Wi-Fi network in the Smart Life app?

Smart products are not a necessity until you start buying into the whole smart home and automation story. That is usually followed by acquiring a few smart devices and, soon enough, you caught yourself owning a dozen of smart plugs, smart bulbs, switches, surveillance cameras, and whatnot. The best entry devices usually come from China and you can configure most of them with the Smart Life app on Android and iOS. Today, we’ll explain how to change the WiFi network in Smart Life for various devices.

How do I change the Wi-Fi network in the Smart Life app?

In order to change the Wi-Fi network for your smart devices in the Smart Life app (or Tuya Smart), you’ll need to reset them. There’s no other way around it but, luckily, the procedure is usually not lengthy. We mention Tuya Smart which is, fundamentally, the same app but for different regions. So, if you don’t have Smart Life, you probably have Tuya Smart or vice versa.

Make sure that the network is 2.4GHz as the large majority of devices won’t work on the 5GHz band. Besides that, enable Bluetooth and Location during the setup period.

Also, make sure that the wireless router is in relative proximity and that the network is not overburdened with too many devices. This is the most important for the first time. After you add the device, it should work without suffering too much due to a crowded network. Also, make sure to remove the device first in the app before physically resetting it.

The resetting procedure may differ but it’s usually a simple sequence on most devices. You should google your smart device to learn how to reset it. Open Smart Life (or Tuya Smart) and do as following:

  1. Remove the device in Smart Life (or Tuya Smart).
  2. Connect to a new 2.4 GHz network you want to apply to your smart device or devices on your phone.
  3. Select the Home tab.
  4. Tap on the plus icon at the top right corner.
  5. Select Add Device.change wi-fi network smart life
  6. Select the device from the list.
  7. Follow the instructions to reset the device. During the pairing sequence, your phone will disconnect from Wi-Fi and connect again.

The same device should work without issues in Google Home, but if it doesn’t, delete it and unlink it from Google Home and then add it again.

And that’s it. Sadly, there’s no way to avoid all this and simply replace the old network with the new one without removing and adding the device anew. But that’s a small drawback considering that this is something you won’t do all that often. Unless you move around with your smart device, in which case you’ll just need to do it every time.
