Why isn’t my phone connecting to cellular data?

1. Restart your iPhone

Before you do anything, restart your iPhone, re-enable Cellular data and check if your device can connect. This usually resolves the majority of issues. After your device obtains the cellular signal again, try using mobile data in Safari or any other network-dependent app.

If you still can’t connect, make sure that the app in question is allowed to use Cellular Data and inspect other related settings.

2. Check Cellular Data settings

There are a few Cellular Data settings you need to check before we move to additional steps. First, ensure that the app in question has permission to use Cellular Data. You can check that if you open Settings > Cellular, where you’ll find the list of all apps that ask permission to use Cellular Data on your iPhone. Sadly, iOS users still can’t set Data Usage Warning without involving third-party apps.Cellular data not working on iOS 16

Another thing worth doing is requesting a new configuration from your carrier. You can usually do that from the carrier’s companion app or if you dial a dedicated USSD code in the Phone app.

3. Remove the SIM card and place it again

The next thing you can try is to remove the SIM card and place it in the SIM tray again. We suggest powering off your iPhone before doing this.

If that does nothing and Cellular Data is still not working on iOS 16, you should Reset Network Settings.

4. Reset Network Settings

The best way to address connectivity issues is to reset Network Settings. If your iPhone won’t connect to Wi-Fi, you have Bluetooth or Cellular Data issues, restoring all network-related settings to their default values usually helps.

Here’s how to Reset Network Settings:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Choose Reset.
  5. Tap Reset Network Settings.Cellular data not working on iOS 16
  6. Confirm and check if the cellular data works now.

5. Check with your carrier
