Although Google does offer a music streaming service called YouTube Music (rest in peace Google Play Music), many users rather use Spotify to play music and podcasts on Google-made smart speakers and displays. Sadly, some users report that Spotify doesn’t appear as an option under available music services in the Google Home app. Worry not, this doesn’t mean that you can’t link Spotify to Google Home as there’s a workaround.

How to link Spotify as a music provider in Google Home
You can link Spotify as a music provider in Google Home under Google Home > Settings > Music. However, if you don’t see it there, open Podcasts and link Spotify there and then just select No default provider in the Music section.
1. Make sure Spotify in Google Home is supported in your region
One thing you need to consider is that Google hardware does come with certain region limitations. In this case, Spotify is not to blame because Spotify is available as a music provider option in the USA and some other countries. It’s just that Google-made smart displays and speakers are not optimized for some regions. And this sometimes means missing certain options just because you use Google Nest or Google Home device in an “unsupported” region. And, although most things will work, particular options might be missing.
In this exact case, Spotify can be linked to Google Home but you just won’t see it appear on the list of available Music providers. But, for some reason, it will appear under Podcasts providers.
2. Link the service through Podcasts
If you can’t see Spotify under Music, you’ll probably see it under Podcasts. Once you link Spotify to your Google Account anywhere, it automatically becomes available on all other devices and services. The idea here is to just link Spotify and then select Other or No default provider under Music providers. The speaker/display should default to Spotify any time you ask it to play music.
Here’s how to link Spotify in Google Home:
- Open Google Home.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Podcasts.
- Tap the Link under Spotify and confirm when prompted.
- Go back and select Music.
- Select No default provider.
Alternatively, you can open Account > Assistant settings > Explore and search for Spotify. You can usually link this service there.
3. Use a VPN to link Spotify to Google Home
On the other hand, if you can’t link Spotify to Google Home as it doesn’t appear under Podcasts nor in Assistant settings, you can use a VPN with the USA-based location to make it appear in the Google Home app. Once you link Spotify, select No default provider. Spotify will still be the default option.
