Due to the nature of Apple ID, when you change some settings like Payment Method, Phone Number, or try to disable Two-Factor Authentication on your iPhone, the changes need to sync with iCloud. However, some users report that the Apple ID settings are stuck while updating. And they had to close Settings and try again but, sadly, they got the same result. If you’re among those users, check the instructions we provided below.

What do I do if my iPhone is stuck on updating Apple ID settings?
If your iPhone is stuck on updating Apple ID settings, you should try with restart, check the network connection, or remove and add your Apple ID account again. If that doesn’t work, consider resetting network settings.
There are a few reasons why this might happen. Some say that it was a bug that Apple allegedly solved. Others say that it’s a server-side issue and that it goes away eventually. But you have a few things to try before giving up and reporting the problem to Apple.
Also, don’t forget that you can change most of those settings concerning your Apple ID on the web. Just navigate to the Apple ID Account Management page and sign in with your credentials.
1. Restart your iPhone
Most iPhone issues that are not major system bugs are often solved with a simple restart. So, before doing anything, restart your iPhone and check if the issue persists. We read some reports about Apple acknowledging a problem with updating Apple ID settings and they seemingly addressed that back on iOS 14. Still, there’s no way we can confirm this.
What you can do if the issue persists is check all the boxes on your side and, if nothing works, report the problem to Apple Support.
2. Check the network
Since Apple ID syncs account changes you made on your iPhone with the cloud, you’ll need the internet connection in order for settings to be updated. With that in mind, make sure that you’re connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and disable VPN/Proxy temporarily. If your iPhone won’t connect to Wi-Fi on iOS, you might need to fix that problem first.
Some users suggest connecting to a different network if available. We recommend restarting your router and giving it another try. If that doesn’t work, sign out of your Apple ID and sign in again.
3. Sign out of your Apple ID and sign in again
This might as well be a temporary glitch and you can usually fix this by removing and adding the Apple ID on your iPhone again. Just make sure to back up your iPhone before doing so because some app data will be removed from the device. In addition, most iCloud services won’t be available while the device is without an Apple ID.
Here’s how to sign out and sign in with your Apple ID on your iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap your account from the top.
- Select iCloud and choose iCloud Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now.
- Go back to your account and tap Sign Out at the bottom.
- Confirm with your Apple ID password and then select Sign Out from the top right corner.
- Restart your device, navigate to Settings > Account and sign in again.
4. Reset All Settings
Finally, if your Apple ID settings are still stuck while updating, you can try resetting all settings. An alternative to this is to factory reset your device and restore it from iCloud or iTunes but we hope the Reset All Settings will work. This procedure, as the name implies, restores all settings to their factory values but doesn’t delete any data.
Here’s how to Reset All Settings on your iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Choose Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings and confirm with your PIN/Password/pattern.
